Chiefs Place DB J.R. Nelson On Injured Reserve After Clearing Waivers

The Kansas City Chiefs officially placed DB J.R. Nelson on the injured reserve list after passing through waivers unclaimed on Thursday.

Nelson, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Montana back in May. He stands to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract.

The Chiefs waived him with an injury designation on Wednesday.

During his college career at Montana, Nelson recorded 103 tackles, two tackles for a loss, a blocked field goal, two forced fumbles, two interceptions returned for touchdowns and 20 pass defenses over the course of 52 games.
