Chiefs Sign TE Neal Sterling, Cut Three

The Kansas City Chiefs officially signed TE Neal Sterling to a contract on Thursday and waived LB Gary Johnson, OT Justin Senior and RB James Williams.

Sterling, 27, is a former seventh-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2015. He was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the team’s practice squad, but he managed to make the 53-man roster in 2017.

Sterling had brief stints with the Jets and Chiefs before New York elected to sign him off the Chiefs’ practice squad. The Jets brought him back on a one-year restricted tender worth $1.907 for the 2018 season.

After Sterling’s contract expired, the Jets elected to bring him back in March as an unrestricted free agent. However, he was released a few days ago.

In 2018, Sterling appeared in five games and caught six passes for 47 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
