NFL Teams Already Showing Interest In Chip Kelly

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that NFL teams “already are plotting ways to talk to and try to hire Oregon head coach Chip Kelly.”

Kelly seems likely to end up coaching in the NFL this year, so it’s not surprising that some teams would already have interest. The Browns, Chiefs, and possible even the Eagles could all be in play depending on whether or not Andy Reid is fired of course.

Former Oregon Ducks head coach Mike Bellotti mentioned he believes Chip Kelly will end up coaching in the NFL in the near future.

“It’s just inevitable that he will eventually be in the NFL,” said Bellotti, per Dennis Dodd of CBS. “Chip is one of the ultimate competitors and he sees that. It actually surprised me he changed his mind [with the Bucs] last year. Whether they get to the national championship and whether they win the national championship, I don’t know. To think he’ll stay there when ultimately his idea of top jobs is to get to the Super Bowl, it won’t happen, unfortunately, at the college level.

Kelly was reportedly close to reaching an agreement with the Buccaneers last year, but he ultimately decided against the idea. There’s not question that NFL team’s would be interested in bringing him in, especially after what Jim Harbaugh has been able to do with the 49ers.

Kelly’s known for taking risks and running an exceptional spread offense at the college level, so there’s some concern regarding how that will translate to the next level, but he would bring a lot of interest to a new team. It will be interesting to see how things play out for Oregon this season, but there will be plenty of rumors about him entering the NFL.
