Colts Interviewing 6 For GM Job, Candidates Reportedly “Salivating” Over Position

Update:

Stephen Holder spoke with a couple of Colts’ GM candidates and mentions that it’s safe to say people are “salivating over this job.” According to Holder, the status of HC Chuck Pagano won’t be deterrent for the candidates.

On Wednesday, the Colts announced that they will interview six candidates for the job including Chiefs director of football operations Chris Ballard, Packers executive Eliot Wolf, Seahawks executives Trent Kirchner and Scott Fitterer, Vikings assistant GM George Paton and Colts interim GM Jimmy Raye III.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Colts are interviewing Chiefs director of football operations Chris Ballard for their GM vacancy on Wednesday.

  • Mike Garafolo reports that Packers executive Eliot Wolf is expected to interview for the Colts’ job later this week.

This is interesting, considering that Ballard elected to not interview for the 49ers’ GM position a few weeks ago. Ballard is clearly a hot commodity in regards to GM openings around the league.

There have been rumors about Chiefs GM John Dorsey possibly returning to the Packers and taking over for their current GM Ted Thompson, which would leave Ballard in position to assume control over the Chiefs. Although, the possibility still exists that Dorsey could sign an extension along with HC Andy Reid at some point in the next year.

As of now, the Colts have requested permission to interview Packers executive Eliot Wolf, Seahawks executives Trent Kirchner and Scott Fitterer, Vikings assistant GM George Paton and Colts interim GM Jimmy Raye III.

Irsay is reportedly the one making the call on who will be the team’s next general manager, which some have interpreted as being a good sign he’ll go with Raye. However, he’ll at least give some other an opportunity to win him over for the position.

The main selling point with the Colts’ GM position is the fact that they can offer candidates the ability to build the team around QB Andrew Luck, which isn’t an opportunity that comes with every GM vacancy.

We’ll have more regarding the Colts’ GM search as the news is available.
