Cowboys “Badly” Want To Acquire Dolphins DE Robert Quinn

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram reports that the Cowboys “badly” want to trade for Dolphins DE Robert Quinn and view him as the key off-season acquisition that puts them over the top as they look to win now in 2019.

Hill writes that acquiring Quinn would give the Cowboys a replacement for Randy Gregory, who is currently suspended indefinitely, along with a solid compliment to DeMarcus Lawrence.

According to Hill, the Cowboys are hoping that the Dolphins will pay a portion of Quinn’s contract to facilitate a trade and reports out of Miami have said this is something the Dolphins are willing to do.

Quinn visited with the Cowboys last week and reportedly left Dallas to meet with the Saints this week. There has also been some talk of a mystery team possibly being in play for Quinn, so there is some competition for his services.

Quinn, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2011. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $66.575 million extension that included $41.268 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $11.811 million for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Quinn will free up $12,932,332 of available cap space for the Dolphins while creating no dead money.

In 2018, Quinn appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and recorded 38 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.

  1. The Jets should go for Gerald McCoy and Robert Quinn. McCoy will likely become a cap casualty and Quinn could probably be had for a mid rounder. The Jets mid rounders are higher slated picks then the Cowboys.

Then the Jets could draft Quinnen Williams at #3. that would give the Jets some veteran leadership, along with one of the best front 4 d-lines in the NFL.

    LDE- Leonard Williams
    DT- Quinnen Williams
    NT- Gerald McCoy
    RDE- Robert Quinn

    LOLB- Avery Williamson
    MLB- CJ Moseley
    ROLB- Brandon Copeland
LB Darron Lee will most likely become 2019 trade bait.

    LCB- Trumaine Johnson
    SS- Jamal Adams
    FS- Marcus Maye
RCB- TBD via 2019 draft pick/FA

All of this talent being mentored by DC Gregg Williams. WOW!

      • The Cowpokes can’t get a deal done with one of their own D-Lineman Lawrence, due to money issues. What do you think Quinn will ask for in his new deal? If Matthews got almost $17M for 2 years at 33 years old. Then Quinn and his new deal will most likely start at the very least $10M per season and Quinn is only 28.

    • Plus the dolphins won’t make that trade to the jets and the asking price is a 3rd for the jets likely a 2nd so I doubt they would even be interested

      • I’m sure Robert Quinn a 9 year vet has a short list on where he would welcome a trade. Also! I’m positive the Jets are on that list. Considering Quinn had some of his best years with the Rams under Gregg Williams tutelage.
And a 2nd rounder will NOT even be part of the trade discussion. That is way to high. The asking price will start at a high 3rd or very high 4th rounder. The Jets fall into that category as far as picks and defense familiarity.
