49ers DL DeForest Buckner says his agent, Joel Segal, plans to meet with the team after this season to discuss a possible long-term extension.
โI talked to my agent in the past couple weeks (and) heโs going to come out in the offseason and weโre going to talk a little more,โ Buckner said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. โRight now, thatโs something that I donโt know and weโre going to figure (it) out during the offseason.โ
49ers HCย Kyle Shanahan said earlier in the week that Buckner is “someone we want to be a Niner for a long time.โ
โWeโll look into all of that stuff,โ Shanahan said. โI havenโt thought about any of that now, but I know DeFo is someone we want to be a Niner for a long time.โ
Buckner, 24, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $18.19 million contract and set to make a base salary of $2.93 million for the 2019 season.
The 49ers will have to decide whether to pick up Buckner’s fifth-year option next April.
In 2018, Buckner has appeared in 14 games for the 49ers and recorded 60 tackles, 11 sacks and two pass defenses.
