Dolphins Believed To Be Leaning Toward Hiring Patriots DC Brian Flores

Mike Jones of USA Today reports that while the Dolphins have had “strongest interest” in Cowboys assistant Kris Richard, a league source believes Miami is leaning toward hiring Patriots DC Brian Flores.

In total, Flores interviewed with four teams including Dolphins, Packers, Browns and Broncos. However, the Packers and Broncos have already hired other candidates, leaving just two jobs still available.

It’s worth mentioning that the Dolphins are scheduled to conduct an interview with special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi on Friday.

Miami will have interviewed five candidates for the job including:

  1. Patriots DC Brian Flores
  2. Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy
  3. Saints DC Dennis Allen
  4. Cowboys passing game coordinator/DBs coach Kris Richard
  5. Dolphins special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi

Flores, 37, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots back in 2004 as a scouting assistant. He has spent his entire career with New England and held a number of positions including Pro scout, special teams assistant, assistant offense/special teams, defensive assistant, safeties coach and linebackers coach.

The Patriots declined to promote Flores to defensive coordinator after losing Matt Patricia last year, but he served as the team’s de facto coordinator this season.
