Dolphins Officially Promote LBs Coach Matt Burke To Defensive Coordinator

Update:

The Miami Dolphins announced Thursday that they’ve officially promotedĀ Matt Burke to defensive coordinator.

———-

According to Albert Breer, the Dolphins are expected to promote linebackers coach Matt Burke to defensive coordinator now that the Broncos have officially hired Vance Joseph as their next head coach.

Others have mentioned that the Dolphins specificallyĀ targeted Burke as an eventual successor to Joseph should he take a head-coaching job at some point.

By going with Burke, the Dolphins can maintain some continuity on the defensive side of the ball, as opposed to bringing another coordinator who would implement a new defensive scheme.

Burke has worked for a few NFL teams including the Titans, Lions and Bengals beforeĀ the Dolphins hired him as their linebackers coach last year.

In 2016, the Dolphins ranked No. 29 in total yards allowed, No. 18 in points allowed, No. 30 in rushing yards allowed and No. 15 in passing yards allowed.
