Update:

Dolphins HC Joe Philbin announced Monday that they are placing S Louis Delmas on season-ending injured reserve.

Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that an MRI on Monday confirmed that Dolphins S Louis Delmas does in fact have a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2014 season.

  • According to PFT, the MRI showed no other damage in his knee beyond the ACL tear.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that Delmas will head to the Dolphins injured reserve list.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Dolphins believe S Louis Delmas suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

  • Salguero adds that the Dolphins are awaiting the MRI results to confirm the injury.

If Delmas does in fact have a torn ACL, his 2014 season would obviously be over. It can take up to nine months to recover from a major knee injury like this, so there would at least be some question regarding whether or not he’ll be ready to go for the start of the 2015 season.

Delmas, 27, wound up signing just a one-year contract worth $3.5 million with the Dolphins after the Lions cut him loose in move to free up some cap space.

Entering Sunday’s game, Delmas had recorded 57 tackles, one sack, an interception and two fumble recoveries over the course of 12 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 39 safety out of 86 qualifying players.

We’ll post as an update regarding Delmas’ injury on Monday.
