Demetress Bell Gets Only One Year Guaranteed From The Eagles

According to Jeff McLanes of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles have given themselves an out in the recent contract that they gave to OT Demetress Bell.

Bell signed a five-year deal with the team earlier this morning, but McLane adds that one the first season is guaranteed which will allow Philadelphia to cut him lose following the 2012 season if needed.

This is a smart move for the Eagles as they prevented themselves from over committing to Bell, while finding a decent replacement for Jason Peters. I should probably bump their free agency grade up to a B+ for this savvy move.

Several media outlets are reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles have found a replacement for injured OT Jason Peters in former Bills OT Demetress Bell. The Eagles have signed him to a five-year contract but the specifics of the deal remain unknown. Bell has actually changed his name from Demetrius to Demetress as well.

Bell was by far one of the best remaining free agents and just happened to play a premium position. It really appeared as though the Eagles were the favorites to sign him after losing Peters for 9-12 with an Achilles injury. This will most likely prevent them from targeting a o-lineman  in the earlier rounds of the upcoming draft.

We had him listed as the #11 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
