ESPN Signs Jon Gruden To A Contract Extension Through 2021

ESPN’s Mike Tirico announced during Monday night’s telecast that Jon Gruden has signed a contract extension that will keep him in the booth through 2021, per Chris Mortensen.

Gruden’s name comes up in coaching rumors every year, but some believed that this could finally be the year he returns as the Raiders are expected to make a very serious run at landing a big name head coach. However, it looks like we’ll continue to hear even more rumors and speculation about Gruden returning to the NFL next year.

It’s worth mentioning that Gruden’s contract almost certainly includes an out that will allow him to pursue coaching opportunities if this ends up being something he wants to pursue at some point in time.

This is Gruden’s sixth year away from coaching, so there is at least some question as to whether he’ll still be an attractive head coaching option the longer he’s away from the game.

During Gruden’s 11-year coaching career, he posted a record of 95 and 81 (.540) to go along with four division titles and a Super Bowl Championship with the Buccaneers.
