Falcons Franchise DT Grady Jarrett

Adam Schefter reports that the Falcons have placed the franchise tag on DT Grady Jarrett Monday.

The Falcons have already confirmed the news:

“As we have said since the end of the season, getting a deal done with Grady is our priority,” Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said. “Applying the franchise tag to him does not change that in any way. Our aim is for Grady to be an integral part of our plan for many years to come and this allows us to extend our negotiating window.”

The franchise tag will run the Falcons $15,355,000 fully guaranteed for the 2019 season if they were to use it on Jarrett.

Jarrett, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.527 million contract and set to make a base salary of $1.907 million for the 2018 season.

Jarrett will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2018, Jarrett appeared in 14 games for the Falcons and recorded 53 tackles, six sacks and three forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 interior defensive lineman out of 118 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
