Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that Falcons RB Devonta Freeman could be out around two weeks with a foot sprain he suffered in Sunday’s win over the Saints.
Rapoport adds that the injury is “relatively minor” and affects Freeman’s toe more than his foot.
The Falcons placed RB Ito Smith on injured reserve last week, which means Atlanta moves forward with Brian Hill as their starter while Freeman is out of the lineup.
Freeman, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2.7 million contract when he and the Falcons agreed to a five-year, $41.25 million extension that included $22 million guaranteed.
Freeman stands to make base salaries of $3.75 million and $6.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2019, Freeman has appeared in nine games and rushed for 371 yards on 107 carries (3.5 YPC) to go along with 38 receptions for 282 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
