Giants Could Fire HC Ben McAdoo Following Raiders Game

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen are reporting that Ben McAdoo’s time as the Giants head coach is coming to an end, and he could be fired in the 24 hours after Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

According to ESPN, Giants GM Jerry Reese’s standing also is highly tenuous. However, it’s more uncertain as to his potential departure than McAdoo’s.

Last week, the Giants elected to bench QB Eli Manning, which is now reportedly viewed as the final straw for the Giants this season.

Giants owner John Mara is “extremely fond” of Manning and reportedly felt the situation highlighted McAdoo’s lack of communication skills that he has displayed during his time as the team’s head coach.

Mara ultimately accepted responsibility for how poorly the decision to bench Manning was handled but he is unhappy with how McAdoo presented the plan to Manning.

The concerns regarding Manning go beyond what happened with Manning, as the Giants’ offense has lacked creativity this year, even though they’ve lost a number of key players for the season.

McAdoo elected to suspend cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Janoris Jenkins, which has led to the team being concerned that relationships have been torn down this season, rather than being built up.

A source tells ESPN that it’s “possible” growing more and more likely that the Giants will have a different head coach for the next home game.

McAdoo, 40, was hired as the Giants’ offensive coordinator back in 2014 and took over for HC Tom Coughlin two years later. During his two years in charge of the team, McAdoo has led them to a record of 13-14 (48.1percent), which includes a playoff appearance last year.

We’ll have more regarding McAdoo’s future as the news is available.
