Jets Cut Jericho Cotchery, Chargers A Possibility?

Brett Hollander reports that sources have informed him that Jets have released WR Jericho Cotchery.

ESPN’s Bill Williamson writes that Cotchery could make sense for the San Diego Chargers considering that Cotchery was Phillip Rivers go to guy in college. San Diego seems likely to lose Malcom Floyd which gives them a core group that consists of Vincent Jackson, Vincent Brown, Laurent Robinson and Patrick Crayton. This idea is purely speculative but Williamson makes a pretty solid case for San Diego to at least consider it.

CBS Sports and 105.7 The Fan, via the Baltimore Sun, reports that the New York Jets will be bringing in WR Derrick Mason for a workout today which could very well be the end for WR Jericho Cotchery.

Cotchery was reportedly being shopped last week but considering that a deal was never reached he’s now likely to be released. Cotchery told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that “It’s time to move on,” and added that “if he (Mason) passes the physical, he’s on the team and I won’t be.”

Cotchery has remained a selfless player while in New York so this would be a disappointing ending to his time with the Jets. Cotchery has refused to take a pay cut which is why the Jets are considering cutting in favor of Mason.
