Jets Interviewing Scott Fitterer For GM Position Thursday & Friday

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Jets will interview Seahawks co-director of player personnel Scott Fitterer on Thursday and Friday.

Breer writes the Jets also have an interview scheduled with Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly, though the timing for that interview isn’t clear yet.

Other reported candidates the Jets have asked to interview include Minnesota’s George Paton and Philadelphia’s Joe Douglas. However, Paton has declined to interview with the Jets the last two times they had vacancies in 2013 and 2015, per Brian Costello.

Douglas is widely believed to be the preferred candidate by the Jets. He and HC Adam Gase have a close relationship and Douglas is well connected in the scouting community. Breer mentions Kelly could take a job with the Jets if they hire Douglas.

Fitterer joined the Seahawks as an area scout back in 2001 and worked his way up to director of college scouting in 2010 before being promoted to his current job.

He has been a popular name in GM searches over the past few years. New York actually interviewed Fitterer for the GM job back in 2015.
