According to Schefter, Winters is not expected to be without a job very long.

The Jets will likely turn to Greg Van Roten, who they signed in free agency to replace Winters at right guard.

Winters, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Jets back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $29 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $7 million for the 2020 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Winters will free up $7,281,250 of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2019, Winters appeared in nine games for the Jets, starting every game at right guard.
