Johnny Manziel Will Not Throw At The Scouting Combine

According to Johnny Manziel’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, he will not participate in the throwing drills at this year’s Scouting Combine.

Instead, Manziel expects throw at his March 27th Pro Day and private workouts. Burkhardt added that Manziel will give teams “all the time and access they want” on this day.

  • Ian Rapoport mentions that Texas A&M’s Pro Day is on March 5, but Manziel will hold his own private workouts later in the month.

Earlier today, Manziel mentioned that he believes he’s worthy of the No. 1 overall pick and that if the Texans were to pass on him, it would be the would be the worst decision they’ve ever made.

“It would be the worst decision they’ve ever made,” Manziel said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I’d be in the same division playing against them twice a year. Sorry, but you just turned that chip on my shoulder from a Frito into a Dorito.

“I want them to say absolutely, without a doubt, with 100 percent certainty, that I’m who they want,” Manziel said of playing for the Texans.

Mel Kiper previously mentioned that Manziel was the “consensus” top quarterback in this year’s draft class, although it appears as that things are still wide open in regards to who will be the first quarterback selected this May.

With this in mind, it’s hard to say whether or not Manziel has done enough up to this point to convince an NFL team in need of  a quarterback to take him ahead of guys like Teddy Bridgewater or Blake Bortles. If anything, the fact that Manziel is not throwing at the Combine could be an opportunity for one of these guys to step in and possibly solidify the first overall pick.

We have Manziel going to the Browns at No. 4 overall in our most recent 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
