Ken Whisenhunt Removes Name From Georgia Tech Search, Staying With Chargers

Adam Schefter reports that OC Ken Whisenhunt has removed his name from the Georgia Tech coaching search and will remain in place as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator.

Whisenhunt interviewed for the Georgia Tech coaching job recently and has ties to the school. However, reports have said that Temple HC Geoff Collins is the front-runner for the job.

Whisenhunt, 56, began his NFL coaching career with the Ravens back in 1997 as their tight ends coach. He had brief stints with the Browns and Jets before being hired by the Steelers in 2001.

After working his way to offensive coordinator, Whisenhunt departed for the Cardinals’ head-coaching job in 2007 and actually led them to a Super Bowl before he was fired after the 2012 season.

Whisenhunt spent one year with the Chargers before he once again landed a head-coaching job, this time with the Titans. Unfortunately, it was a short stay for him in Tennessee as he was fired after two years and later returned as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator in 2016.

In 2018, Whisenhunt’s Chargers offense ranks No. 6 in total yards, No. 7 in points scored, No. 8 in rushing yards and No. 10 in passing yards.
