Kenny Britt Hoping To Sign With Contender If He Clears Waivers

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that veteran WR Kenny Britt is hoping to sign on with a playoff contenderĀ if he clears waivers on Monday.

Florio points out that if Britt does, in fact, pass through waivers unclaimed, he can collect the balance of his pay from the Browns as termination pay on top of whatever he receives from another team, so Cleveland is obviously hoping someone will claim him.

A team worth keeping an eye on for Britt, according to Florio, is the Patriots, considering that they targeted a number of Rutgers players in the past.

The Browns elected to cut him loose just a day after new GM John Dorsey was hired.

Britt, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Titans back in 2009. He spent five years in Tennessee before signing on with the Rams in 2014.

The Browns signed Britt to a four-year, $32.5 million deal back in March.

According to OverTheCap.com, Cleveland will saveĀ $3,250,000 in cap space by releasing him, while creatingĀ $4,875,000 in dead money.

In 2017, Britt has appeared in nine games and recorded nine receptions for 233 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 103 overall receiver out of 116 qualifiers.

We have him featured in our Top 25 ā€“ 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
