Latest On Jadeveon Clowney Trade Rumors

Michael Lombardi of VISN expects the Texans to trade franchise OLB Jadeveon Clowney in the next “24 to 48 hours” and he would be “shocked” if Clowney wasn’t moved in this timeframe.

According to Lombardi, there are “a lot of teams after” Clowney in the trade market with the Texans looking for another receiver to complement DeAndre Hopkins.

Lombardi says that there are currently two teams negotiating with Clowney right now in terms of joining their team.

Clowney has yet to sign his franchise tag worth $15.967 million and has skipped the offseason program and training camp. Clowney would have to sign his franchise tender in order to be traded, so this gives him some leverage in terms of where he could end up.

John McClain reiterates that he expects the Texans to trade Clowney for a left tackle once he signs his tender.

A few days ago, Jay Glazer reported on Fox Sports’ Thursday telecast (per Barry Jackson) that the Texans have spoken to 10 teams including the Dolphins about a potential trade for Clowney.

Before that, Lombardi reported the Texans are shopping him in trade talks around the NFL and Houston’s trade demands for Clowney “will be reasonable” and “won’t be hard to solve.” However, Lombardi noted the issue in trade talks with other teams will be the kind of money Clowney is looking for in a long-term deal next year.

Clowney, 25, is a former No. 1 overall pick of the Texans back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $22.272 million contract when the Texans picked up his fifth-year option which paid him $12.306 million for 2018.

In 2018, Clowney appeared in 15 games for the Texans and recorded 47 tackles, 9 sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, one defensive touchdown and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 overall edge defender out of 103 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Clowney as the news is available.
