Latest Regarding Jets’ GM Search

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Eagles executive Joe Douglas is still widely believed to be the name to watch for the Jets’ GM job.

According to La Canfora, three NFL GMs were convinced before the draft that Douglas was going to take over the Jets following the draft.

La Canfora mentions that based on the Jets’ prior struggles to get top-tier candidates to interview for their GM job, it would seem strange for them to fire Mike Maccagnan and promote Adam Gase on an interim basis if they didn’t already have an idea of who they were going to hire for the position.

Regarding Douglas, La Canfora hears that he already has “the makings of a sharp-looking staff ready to go” and his relationship with Gase would appear to be the trump card.

La Canfora says he’s spoken with associates for two candidates linked to the Jets who have wondered whether they would have a serious shot at the job, given that there has been so much buzz about Douglas being hired by New York.

Beyond that, La Canfora mentions that there’s a sense around the NFL that a lot of change could be coming to the GM ranks next year and there could be more attractive jobs available.

The Jets plan to start interviewing general manager candidates this week, including Douglas, Chicago’s Champ Kelly, Minnesota’s George Paton and Seattle’s Scott Fitterer.
