Lions Sign G Geoff Schwartz To A One-Year Deal

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions are signing G Geoff Schwartz to a contract following his visit with the team on Tuesday.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Schwartz receives a one-year contract from the Lions.

The Steelers and Dolphins both showed interest in Schwartz, but it appears as though the Lions were his best option.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Schwartz to a contract won’t factor into the Lions’ 2017 compensatory picks.

Schwartz, 29, was in the third year of his four-year, $16.8 million contract that included $6.2 million guaranteed he he was released in a move that freed up $2,991,666 in available cap space for the Giants.

In 2015, Schwartz was limited to appearing in 11 games for the Giants. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 guard out of 82 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
