Lions Sign TE Levine Toilolo

According to Jeremy Fowler, the Lions are signing veteran TE Levine Toilolo to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

  • According to Ian Rapoport, the Lions signed Toilolo to a one-year contract worth around $2 million.

The Lions brought in Toilolo for a visit in recent weeks, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise. Detroit recently signed TE Luke Willson in an attempt to bolster their depth at the position after they released Eric Ebron this offseason.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Toilolo to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Toilolo, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2013. He was entering the second year of his three-year, $12 million contract that included $4.5 million guaranteed and set to make base salaries of $3.5 million and $4 million over the final two years of the agreement when the Falcons designated Toilolo as a post-June 1st release.

In 2017, Toilolo caught 12 passes for 122 yards receiving and one touchdown over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 tight end of out of 71 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
