Lions Called Seahawks About Trade For RB Rashaad Penny Right After They Drafted Him

Jay Glazer reported on Thursday’s pregame show that the Lions actually called the Seahawks right after they selected RB Rashaad Penny about a potential trade for the running back.

After (the Seahawks) picked him in April in the draft in the first round, something happened I’ve never heard. A team actually called them right after and said, ‘We now want to trade for the player you just selected,’” Glazer said, via PrideofDetroit.com. “The Detroit Lions did it. Unbelievable, never heard about that before in my life.”

Interestingly enough, Seahawks GM John Schneider confirmed after the trade in April that an unnamed team contacted them about a deal for Penny.

“A true rarity is that we had a team call after we selected him and tried to acquire him,” Schneider said, via the Seattle Times. “I’ve never experienced that.”

Penny, 22, was taken with the No. 27 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft by the Seahawks. He signed a four-year, $10,765,436 contract that includes a $5,909,408 signing bonus with the Seahawks.

The contract includes a fifth-year option for the Seahawks to pick up in 2021.

In 2018, Penny has appeared in nine games and rushed for 254 yards on 54 carries (4.7 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 75 yards receiving and one touchdown.
