Lions Waive WR Aaron Dobson, Promote LB Zaviar Gooden

The Detroit Lions announced Saturday that they’ve waived WR Aaron Dobson and promoted LB Zaviar Gooden to their active roster.

Dobson, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $3.428 million rookie contract that included $1.173 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $872,505 in 2016 when he was waived by the Patriots a few weeks ago.

The Lions just recently signed him to a contract.

In 2015, Dobson appeared in eight games and caught 13 passes for 141 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

Gooden, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Titans back in 2013. He had two years remaining on his four-year, $2.681 million rookie contract that included a $506,016 signing bonus. He was set to make a base salary of $590,000 for the 2015 season.

Gooden, unfortunately, sustained a torn hamstring last August that led to him being placed on injured reserve at the start of the season. The Lions brought him back shortly after this year’s draft only to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Gooden returned to the team’s practice squad earlier in the week.

In 2014, Gooden appeared in 15 games for the Titans and recorded 24 tackles and no sacks.
