NFC Notes: 49ers, Cowboys, Eagles

49ers

New 49ers WR Travis Benjamin believes he fits the team’s system because of HC Kyle Shanahan‘s love for speed.

“Speed,” Benjamin said, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports. “Kyle loves speed.”

Benjamin pointed out that Shanahan typically will draw up plays for fast receivers.

Whenever there’s a fast guy willing to make a play, Kyle is willing to draw it up for you to make that play, and put that speed on tape,” Benjamin said

Benjamin feels he has a “slight edge” over other 49ers’ receivers given he knows what to expect in Shanahan’s system.

It gives me a slight edge because I know what to expect,” Benjamin said. “I know what the situation Kyle likes in his offense and the tempo he wants to move the ball and the receiver sets, and Kyle wants the type of player who can learn and play each of the positions out there.”

Cowboys

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he’s focused on surrounding QB Dak Prescott with not and not his contract.

“I think when I look at the career that Dak has had with the Cowboys, it gives me a really solid feeling about what’s in store for us in the future,” Jones said, via NFL.com. “We’ve got to do everything we can – and that’s what we’re doing in this offseason — to put the players on the Cowboys that are players that can — with his talent as quarterback — really win championships or have a shot at it. That’s the thing I think about when I think of where we are and how we are with Dak.”

  • Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said of first-round WR CeeDee Lamb during an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio: “[He] was tied for the fourth-highest grade (on our draft board). I think he was sixth overall. … When the first receiver on your board is sitting there that late in the first round, it’s just too good to pass up for us.” (Jon Machota)
  • Football Outsiders via ESPN lists tight end as the biggest hole left on the Cowboys’ roster, with Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz currently topping the depth chart.
