NFC Notes: Bears, Panthers, Rams

Bears

Bears WR Allen Robinson (ACL) took part in Wednesday’s OTA practice for the first time this offseason. However, new Bears HC Matt Nagy said that Allen isn’t expected to be a full participant in next week’s mandatory minicamp.

“We’re just not there yet,” Nagy said, via ESPN.com. “I said it last week, there’s no need to rush the kid. He’s really going in the right direction. No reason right now for us to do anything more than let him continue to be positive, go at his own pace when he feels good, and then when we get to training camp be ready to go.”

Even so, the Bears still expect Robinson to be cleared to practice without restrictions for the start of training camp on July 19.

I think one of the biggest things is that when you go through an injury like that, and I personally went through it myself, it can be an injury where physically you’re good to go and you feel really strong, but you still have to have the right mindset,” Nagy said. “I know it felt good for the offense [for Robinson to be out there]. That was good.”

  • Bears DC Vic Fangio admitted that there are questions about their depth at outside linebacker right now: “There is a little bit of question there of depth and depth quality. But we’re confident that the guys we have there, somebody will surface to be the two starters and couple backups we need.” (Rich Campbell)

Panthers

  • Free agent QB Derek Anderson said goodbye to the Carolina on Wednesday, via his Twitter account. ‘’I appreciated my time with the @Panthers more than any of you know. Charlotte is where our family started and grew to 5! So much love! I came to you guys when I needed you more than you needed me. Nothing but love for all my teammates and coaches that made me a better person!
  • This comes a day after Panthers HC Ron Rivera said they planned to move forward with one of the quarterbacks on their roster as their backup in 2018.

Rams

  • Rams HC Sean McVay said there is “no update” yet DT Aaron Donald’s potential contract extension. (Myles Simmons)
  • McVay said that DL Morgan Fox‘s season-ending knee injury was a non-contact issue that occurred during last week’s practice: “Certainly, that’s a big loss for us.” (Myles Simmons)
