NFC Notes: Rams, Saints, Seahawks

Rams

Rams veteran CB Aqib Talib said recently that he expects to return for the team’s Week 13 game.

However, Rams HC Sean McVay isn’t ready to commit to Talib returning at that point.

“That’s a vet move right there,” McVay said of Talib, via Pro Football Talk“Aqib [is] putting a lot of pressure on [Senior Director of Sports Medicine and Performance] Reggie Scott and our training staff. So we’ll see if they’re as good as they say they are, then Aqib should be ready to go,” McVay said with a laugh. “He is making great progress. I know he wants to be out there as soon as possible. We would want him to be out there as soon as possible, but we’re continuing to take it day-to-day. Certainly, he’s a guy that we anticipate using one of those [injured reserve return] designations on. When that is exactly, I don’t know. I love the fact that Aqib wants to get back as soon as possible, but we’ll see if Reggie earns his paycheck and he can make that thing happen.

Saints

Saints HC Sean Payton tells Ed Werder that he’s “open-minded” about newly signed WR Dez Bryant playing for them in Week 10.

“I will be open-minded about it. Packages-wise, there’s simple things we can do, but we will see how he’s doing and moving around,” Payton said.

  • Bryant mentioned that he turned down opportunities to work out for other team and added: “Who wouldn’t want to play with Drew Brees?” (Doug Mouton)

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll mentioned that rookie RB Rashaad Penny has “a lot to offer” but he just needs more attempts.

He needs to just be more involved,” Carroll said, via Pro Football Talk. “I think he just needs to keep getting attempts and get out there and play. Just get accustomed to everything that’s going on around him. Big volume player (in college), lot of plays, lot of carries when he played. He’s getting spot play so it’s difficult to go and just make that commitment at this time because we have other guys that have been really effective as well. We’re just bringing him along and hoping that we can acclimate him and see him at his best. He’s got a lot to offer us that we know of and so it’s just going to be a matter of time.
