NFC South Notes: Buccaneers, Falcons, Panthers

Buccaneers

  • Regarding Buccaneers G Ali Marpet‘s five-year, $55 million contract extension, Adam Schefter reports that Marpet will earnย $12.625 million of his salary in the first year of his deal,ย $23.25 million by the second year, and $33.5 million by the third.
  • Schefter adds that Marpet’s $27.125 million guaranteed is the third highest guaranteed money figure for guards, while his contract is the fifth-most for NFL guards.

Falcons

Falcons HC Dan Quinn said Wednesday that DT Grady Jarrett is “definitely improving” and could return for Week 6.

โ€œHeโ€™sย definitely improving,โ€ Quinn said, via AtlantaFalcons.com. โ€œHeโ€™s going to work some on the side but no team reps. As we get into the later part of the week, Iโ€™ll have a better assessment. Weโ€™re definitely not ruling him out based on the work that heโ€™s putting in.โ€

Panthers

Panthers TE Greg Olsen told reporters on Wednesday that he wouldn’t return from his foot injury if he didn’t think he could help the team.

โ€œI wouldnโ€™t put myself out there if I couldnโ€™t help the team. I expect to play well,โ€ Olsen said, per Max Henson.

โ€œI felt good to be back out there. Would have preferred to not have a rainstorm, but other than that it was good,” Olsen added. “Weโ€™ll see what tomorrow brings. But nice to get a full practice under my belt.โ€
