NFC South Notes: Buccaneers, Panthers, Saints

Buccaneers

Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston is set to make this 2018 debut after missing the first four games of the season.

Winston mentioned that his time away from the team allowed him to reflect on his situation and he’s looking forward to taking advantage of this opportunity.

“Having this taken away from you briefly, it can make you reflect on things, like last year when I had my shoulder injury,” Winston explained, via the Tampa Bay Times. “It was tough for me. Even though I was happy we had success, I’ve never been out of football, you know, like out of the loop. So every day is a blessing to be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer and play this great game. So I’ve got to do my best to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Panthers

  • Panthers LT Matt Kalil said Thursday that he’s on schedule to resume practicing next week and play against the Buccaneers on Nov. 4. Kalil added that his knee feels strong and rehab from his scope has gone well. (Joe Person)

Saints

  • Nick Underhill reports that Teddy Bridgewater’s with the Saints includes two voidable years that were added in order to spread out his cap hit.
  • According to Underhill, Bridgewater’s contract is set to automatically void 10 days prior to the start of the 2019 league year.
  • The contract has Bridgewater’s 2019 and 2020 base salaries listed as $22 million.
