NFC West Notes: 49ers, Rams, Seahawks

49ers

49ers WR Trent Taylor mentioned that fourth-round P Mitch Wishnowsky has “serious hang time” on his kicks.

He has some serious hang time. I feel like I’m sitting there waiting for it to come down for way too long. Then once you’re there for too long you start overthinking it. That’s what makes him good,” said Taylor, via Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports

Rams

  • Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman says the feeling around the league is that the Rams are downplaying the seriousness of RB Todd Gurley‘s knee condition.
  • The Rams actions this offseason — trading up in the third round for RB Darrell Henderson and matching RB Malcolm Brown‘s offer sheet from the Lions and limiting Gurley’s workload during OTA’s — seem to indicate more concern than public and private comments.
  • Freeman says the reports that Gurley has arthritis in his knee would be consistent with what he’s seen with other running backs he’s covered with the same condition.

Seahawks

Seahawks OC Brian Schottenheimer said he is “really pleased” with RB Rashaad Penny this offseason.

I’m really pleased with the way he’s attacking practice right now,” Schottenheimer said, via Brady Henderson of ESPN

Henderson points out that Penny is taking first-team reps while Chris Carson recovers from a knee injury.

Schottenheimer mentioned that they will continue to emphasize the run game.

“We make no apologies for how we play,” Schottenheimer said via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “We want to run the football. We want to be physical. We want to take our shots.”
