NFL News: Chargers Tag Vincent Jackson

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the San Diego Chargers will franchise Vincent Jackson for the upcoming season. It appeared that this was a likely scenario as early as a few weeks ago so this is another decision that isn’t all that surprising.

The Chargers and Jackson were unable to come to an longterm contract agreement last year which led to Jackson sitting out for a good majority of the season only to return and catch three touchdowns in a game against the San Francisco 49ers in week 15.

There’s still a chance that Jackson could get a longterm contract from the Chargers but that won’t happen anytime soon so San Diego will have plenty of time to contemplate their options. The good news for Chargers fans is that they will have a good chance of competing next season now that they’ll have a solid wide-receiver option other than Antonio Gates.
