NFL Notes: 2021 Salary Cap, Jim Harbaugh, Minority Coaching Candidates

Jim Harbaugh

  • Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh is believed to be eyeing a return to the NFL as a head coach, as his tenure at Michigan is souring.
  • Florio adds there are NFL teams doing their homework on Harbaugh to see if he’s an option. He had a very successful start to his career with the 49ers, but his time at Michigan hasn’t gone as well as many assumed it would.

2021 Salary Cap

  • Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio says it’s possible the NFL and NFLPA agree on a higher salary cap number in 2021 than the $175 million floor.
  • If there’s a good chance things return to relative normalcy, the league and NFLPA could choose to borrow from the future to offset revenue losses in 2020 and keep the cap from dropping, as it would mean less disruption for teams this offseason.
  • Florio mentions that the potential of returning to “something normal or close to it” on top of the next TV deals could lead to the cap being in the range of $195 million or so next year.
