NFL Notes: 49ers, Bills, Eagles, Jets, & Seahawks

49ers

Bills

  • Bills new OC Greg Roman mentioned that QB E.J. Manuel will have a “clean slate” with them next year.

I’m not going to get in to specifics,” Roman said when asked where Manuel needs to improve, via NFL.com. “I definitely think he’s done some very good things and displayed some good traits. I’d say we just have to get his level of consistency a little bit greater.

“Really he and everybody else, once we get through this evaluation process, we’re going to have a very clean slate,” Roman said. “What they might’ve been asked to do or done in the past is really not relevant to what we may or may not ask him to do. So to sit here and pontificate about this, that and the other is a little premature.

Eagles

Jimmy Kempski of the Philadelphia Inquirer takes a look at some potential free agent targets for the Eagles this offseason.

According to Kempski, some players that could be on the Eagles’ radar includes: QB Jake Locker, WR Dwayne Harris, TE Niles Paul, NT Kenrick Ellis, OLB Jason Worilds, ILB Nate Irving, CB Byron Maxwell, CB Charles Tillman, and S Da’Norris Searcy.

Jets

Seahawks GM John Schneider believes the Jets should have given former GM John Idzik at least an opportunity to hire his own head coach.

“I felt bad for him,” Schneider said, via Brian Costello of the New York Post. “I think that, it’s just my personal opinion that you should be able to hire a head coach. If you’re going into a situation like that, try to make it work with the coach that’s there and then if it doesn’t, hire your own coach and see where it goes. . . .

“It’s an entertainment industry, so you know going in that it’s tough, especially in New York City. We just talked about staying positive and what his next step is going to be. We’re just good friends.”

Seahawks

Seahawks GM John Schneider admitted that Russell Wilson‘s next contract will “present challenges” when it comes to addressing other roster needs.

“It presents challenges, there is no question,” Schneider said, via 710 ESPN. “We might not be able to dip into free agency like you may want to here and there or compensate somebody else that you want to compensate that is already on your team.”
