NFL Notes: 49ers, Broncos, Vikings

49ers veteran CB Richard Sherman has only been targetted 10 times this season, but understands what opposing offenses are trying to do against them.

“Sure, I’d like the opportunity to get my hands on the ball and compete,” Sherman said, via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “But it’s part of playing a team sport.”

“Guys are playing as hard as they can,” Sherman added. “The mistakes that have happened, have gotten corrected by the coaches in meetings. I’m sure that one of these days it’ll turn around. It’s football. Very few trends stay the course.”

Broncos

Brittany Bowlen, the 28-year-old daughter of Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, announced Saturday that she’s interested in eventually succeeding her father as controlling owner of the Denver franchise.

“Right now, the Denver Broncos have an owner, my father; unfortunately, he can’t be involved in the day-to-day operations of the team,” Bowlen said, via the Denver Post. “I do have ambitions and goals to one day be the controlling owner of the Denver Broncos.

“I’ll keep working toward those goals. I’m not there yet. But I really believe I can get there.”

Brittany added that there’s currently no timetable for her to take over the franchise.

“I really don’t have a timetable right now,” Bowlen said. “I’m working for McKinsey and right now, that’s my focus. … I think it’s going to help me a lot. It’s really important I get experience outside of the football industry.”

Vikings

Vikings HC Mike Zimmer admitted that he’s concerned about the number of times QB Kirk Cousins has fumbled this year.

“I’m concerned about all the fumbles. We’ve got to do a better job,” Zimmer said, via ESPN.com. “I think the two times, the two that I remember that he fumbled, both times guys were coming from behind him. He’s got to, when he starts moving up in the pocket, he has to be ready to put the ball [away], so we’ll address that.”
