NFL Notes: Aaron Rodgers, Malik Hooker, Germany

Aaron Rodgers

Packers president Mark Murphy was asked about the situation involving QB Aaron Rodgers during an event at Lambeau Field on Thursday. Murphy invoked late GM Ted Thompson, who referred to Rodgers as a “complicated fella.”

“I’m often reminded though… of Ted Thompson, as most of you know, just a great general manager, passed away (earlier this year),” Murphy said, via NBC 26. “(Thompson) often talked about Aaron, that he’s a… and it wasn’t just Aaron, a lot of different players. He would say ‘He’s a complicated fella.'”

“So, I’ll just say that,” Murphy said.

Malik Hooker

  • Free-agent and former Colts S Malik Hooker said he’s not rushing to sign with a new team and plans on taking a couple more visits: “For me, it’s about fitting into the perfect system… Now it’s a matter of taking my time, training camp is next month, not next week. I still have time to still tune-up things and hopefully go on more visits…” (SiriusXM NFL Radio)
  • As for his recovery from a torn Achilles, Hooker said he is capable of playing but wants to be sure he’s playing up to standard: “I’m feeling pretty good right now, obviously I’ve been doing field-work and stuff like that, but for me, it’s getting back to feeling like myself. I’m capable of going out there and playing right now, but it’s just stuff that I can tell, little stuff that makes me that player that I was before.”

Germany

NFL head of the U.K. and Europe Brett Gosper spoke about what the NFL is looking for Germany to host an NFL game.

“Actually, on every criteria, almost any way you look at it, Super Bowl audiences, general audiences and the size of the market in terms of the consumer products that we sell, in terms of video views, followers, etc., Germany is the largest market in Europe, really,” Gosper told Albert Breer of SI.com in April. “So it’s exciting for us. What we’re looking to do is look at the viability and really the best choice of market and partner to manage games in Germany.”
