NFL Notes: Antonio Brown, Chris Long, D.K. Metcalf

Antonio Brown

Terrell Owens tells Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that he’s spoken to Steelers WR Antonio Brown and he has been advising Brown on his situation.

Owens believes Brown wants a “fresh start” and to ultimately part ways with the Steelers.

I’ve talked with Antonio Bown throughout the course of year,” Owens said. “And I’ve kind of known some of what has been going on. He’s leaned on me for advice, as somewhat of a mentor, so to speak. . . . I think with him, I think it’s a fresh start to go elsewhere and part ways with the organization and with some of the things than he and Ben have been confronted with.”

Owens said he has “absolutely” gotten the impression that Brown wants out of Pittsburgh

“Absolutely,” Owens said. “He wants to move on. . . . I don’t like how Ben [Roethlisberger] has kind of thrown him under the bus in certain instances. . . . I think Ben owes him a lot more respect than he has given him. . . . I mean even from the standpoint of him saying he didn’t know anything about a blowup [at practice prior to Week 17] when he was part of the blowup.”

Owens added that Brown has asked him on several occasions about playing in the Bay Area.

I talked to him on a couple of occasions, and I’m not hear to air anybody’s messages or . . . conversations, but he’s asked me how the Bay Area was on several occasions,” Owens said.

Chris Long

Eagles veteran DE Chris Long says “the itch is still there” and he would like to return for the 2019 season.

“I’d like to play football in 2019,” Long said during an interview with 94 WIP. “I thought I had a really strong year and felt good physically. I know I’m an older guy, but I don’t think I’ve missed a practice over the last two years… I had a good year rushing the passer… the itch is still there.

However, Long mentioned that he plans to wait and see what the Eagles elect to do with their roster this offseason.

“As far as what happens, I’m literally just kind of sitting back and seeing what the Eagles do, who they bring in or don’t bring in, and how deep that room gets,” Long said. “I’d still love to play, but at the end of the day, I could go either way.

D.K. Metcalf

  • Adam Schefter reports that Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf, who underwent neck surgery last October, was cleared on Friday for all football activity and will have no limitations moving forward. Schefter adds that Metcalf is training for the combine and will participate in all activities.
