NFL Notes: Art Briles, Bears, Lions & Texans

Art Briles

  • Albert Breer writes that former Baylor HC Art Briles would be interested in being an NFL coach, but most likely wouldn’t accept a role below the coordinator level.
  • However, Breer writes that the Baylor scandal will almost certainly impact his chances of securing a job with an NFL team, but he could still see him targeting an SEC coaching job as well.
  • Briles has visited with a number of NFL teams in recent weeks.

Bears

Bears GM Ryan Pace mentioned that CB Kyle Fuller‘s knee injury wound up being more of an issue than they anticipated and could cost him some time.

“He’s kind of had this nagging injury that we thought maybe he could play with, but as time went on, you could tell it was affecting his movement skills,” Pace said, via Adam Hoge of WGN Radio. “So he’s been getting evaluated over the last couple of days and I’m optimistic that’s something we can get ahold of to make him a better player.

Lions

Redskins

Redskins HC Jay Gruden said they plan to “take our time” with first-round WR Josh Doctson (Achilles).

“I don’t have any expectations for him whatsoever,” Gruden said, via the Washington Post. “I’m just trying to listen to what the trainers are telling me and how he’s feeling. I don’t know. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Gruden did mention that Doctson is “progressing nicely”, but they don’t have a timetable for him right now.

He’s progressing nicely,” Gruden said. “It’s exciting to see him sweat more. He’s doing a little bit more work, and we’ll take it gradually day-by-day. Not going to rush it, but we’re going to try and do more and more as weeks go by.
