NFL Notes: Bengals, Bills, Buccaneers, & Patriots

Bengals

On Thursday, Bengals HC Marvin Lewis said he would be happy to walk away from coaching if the Bengals win the Super Bowl.

I want to hand Mike the trophy, then just walk away,” Lewis said, via the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Bills

  • The Bills opened training camp with veteran QB Matt Cassell as their first-team quarterback.
  • Tyrod Taylor also got some work in with the starters, while EJ Manuel and Matt Simms worked with the second-team offense.
  • HC Rex Ryan told reporters that WR Percy Harvin came to him about lining up at cornerback from time to time. Ryan added that he’ll line Harvin up there every now and then to see what he can do. (Chris Brown)

Buccaneers

  • Buccaneers HC Lovie Smith made it official by announcing: Jameis Winston is our starting quarterback. He’ll be taking first-team reps tomorrow.” (Jeff Darlington)

Patriots

  • Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports writes that this may very well be WR Aaron Dobson‘s last chance with the Patriots.
  • According to Robinson, LT Nate Solder would like to re-sign with the Patriots and it appears as though the door is open for a contract extension to possibly get done at some point.
  • Veteran RB LeGarrette Blount missed his second straight practice due to being out of shape to pass the team’s fitness test.
