NFL Notes: Bills, Cowboys, Lions, Ravens, & Vikings

Bills

  • The Bills activated K Dan Carpenter from the non-football-injury list and added him to their active roster.

Cowboys

Todd Archer of ESPN writes that the Cowboys are facing a decision regarding MLB Rolando McClain at the start of the season.

With McClain suspended for the first four games of the season, the Cowboys could elect to leave him on the physically-unable-to perform list, which would cost him the first six weeks of the season, according to Archer.

As of now, McClain is still recovering from offseason knee surgery and reportedly is not close to returning to practice, so keeping him on the PUP would allow him to serve his suspension and be back once his knee is closer to being 100 percent.

Lions

  • Michael Rothstein writes that even though he had a decent showing in the Lions first preseason game, rookie RB Zach Zenner still has a ways to go for a roster spot.
  • Rothstein writes that receivers Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and Corey Fuller are pretty much locked into roster spots and Lance Moore has seen enough work with the first-team offense that he could be safe as well.
  • With this in mind, there is really only one or two spots available for receivers Jeremy Ross, Ryan Broyles, Greg Salas and TJ Jones.
  • Whoever wins the kick returner job between Ross and Jones will likely secure of the available roster spots.
  • While Rothstein expects rookie RB Ameer Abdullah to be the team’s starter at some point, he mentions that the Lions still have faith in Joique Bell, who is likely to open the year as the No. 1 running back.

Ravens

  • With the recent increase in salaries for quarterbacks, Joel Corry mentions that Ravens QB Joe Flacco should be able increase his salary by renegotiating his contract in 2016 when he’ll carry a cap figure of $28.55 million.

Vikings

  • According to Joel Corry, the Vikings may have to make an early decision on RT Phil Loadholt next year, as he’s owed a $500,000 roster bonus on the third day of league year.
