NFL Notes: Jets, Packers, Titans

 Jets

Kimberly Jones of NFL Network said on Inside Minicamp Live that the Jets reached out to free agent WR Steve Smith about returning to for the 2017, but he said he was not interested. ”

Earlier today in the green room, Steve Smith Sr. was saying ‘Hey, the Jets reached out to me. Yes, the Jets reached out to Steve Smith, asked if he was still interested in playing,” Jones said, via NFL.com. “He indicated he wasn’t.”

  • Connor Hughes reports that Jets DT Steve McLendon‘s spot on the active roster is “safe, for now.”

Packers

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said he doesn’t feel underappreciated by Green Bay, even though he’s no longer at the top of the quarterback pay scale.

Well, that stuff usually takes care of itself, and I have a fantastic agent, he does a great job. He worries about that stuff,” Rodgers said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “When it comes to setting the market values, I let that stuff take care of itself. I know my value in this league, and I know the team appreciates me. I’m going to continue to make myself an indispensable part of this roster. When you do that, when your time comes up to get a contract, you usually get a contract extension.”

Rodgers was asked about possibly structuring his next deal like Tom Brady did with the Patriots.

“I think you forget that Tom has [wife] Gisele, for one,” Rodgers said. “And two, we’re about $20 million under the cap, as usual, so we have plenty of room. Obviously, we signed the last deal knowing that it was a good deal for both sides. If you look at some of the cap numbers around the league with guys who signed in similar time periods, the percentage of the cap was notably higher than my deal. You obviously keep that in mind.”

Titans

Titans DE Karl Klug said he is recovering well from Achilles surgery but is hopeful to return by training camp.

It’s coming along good,” Klug said, per Terry McCormick. I”m doing more and more each week. I don’t enjoy watching practice. It’s not fun, so I’m definitely looking forward to getting back with the guys. I can’t really speak on that fully, but it would be nice to be back by camp, for sure.”
