Packers & DL Mike Daniels “Far Apart” In Contract Talks, Seeking $10M Per Year

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that negotiations between the Packers and DL Mike Daniels broke off recently with the two sides being “far apart in their positions.

According to McGinn, Daniels is seeking in the neighborhood of $10 million per year while the Packers have made him multi-year proposals averaging several million less per year.

McGinn adds that the Packers still want to retain Daniels long-term and it sounds like he would prefer to remain in Green Bay.

“This is the best organization in football,” Daniels said.

McGinn considers the most likely scenario to be for the Packers to allow Daniels to play out the final year of his contract before visiting the idea of an extension once the season has concluded.

Daniels, 26, is entering the final year of his four-year, $2.401 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $660,000 for the 2015 season.

There’s no question that Daniels is the Packers best interior pass-rusher and is in line for a sizable contract extension.

In 2014, Daniels appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and recorded 41 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 defensive end in a 3-4 defense out of 47 qualifying players.
