The Green Bay Packers officially waived RB Orwin Smith on Monday, according to the NFL transactions release.
Smith, 23, was signed to the Packers’ practice squad back in November of last year and later signed a reserve/future contract with the team. However, running back happens to be an area of strength for Green Bay given that they drafted two players last year and re-signed James Starks and John Kuhn this offseason.
Smith appeared in 51 games over the course of his college career and ran for 1,839 yards on 198 carries (9.3 YPC) and 20 touchdowns.
