Packers WR Geronimo Allison To Undergo Surgery, Candidate For IR

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Packers WR Geronimo Allison is expected to undergo surgery for a core muscle injury and could be a candidate to be placed on injured reserve.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy told reporters on Monday that Allison had visited with specialist Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia and is dealing with a significant injury.

This should open the door for more playing for rookie WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling moving forward.

Allison, 24, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois back in May of last year. He was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later signed to their practice squad and eventually promoted to their active roster after Green Bay sustained some injuries at receiver.

The Packers brought Allison back on exclusive rights deals each of the past two years. He’ll be a restricted free agent in 2019.

In 2018, Allison has appeared in five games for the Packers and caught 20 passes for 303 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
