Panthers Hire Perry Fewell As Secondary Coach

The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that they’ve hired Perry Fewell as their secondary coach.

“With his background with coverages and technique I think he’ll be really good for us, especially for our young defensive backs,” head coach Ron Rivera said.

It’s a dream come true, so to speak,” said Fewell. “Coaching for your home team – what better joy could you get? I’m just excited to get to work.”

Fewell, 56, began his NFL coaching career with the Jaguars as their defensive backs coach back in 1998. He has worked for a number of teams including the Rams, Bears, Bills and Giants before he was hired by the Redskins as their defensive backs coach a few years ago.

Unfortunately, Washington fired Fewell along with defensive coordinator Joe Barry in 2017. The Jaguars hired him as their secondaries coach back in January of last year but recently elected to part ways with him along with three other positions coaches last week.

It’s worth mentioning that Fewell worked under Coughlin while they were in New York several years ago.
