Panthers Rework Luke Kuechly’s Contract, Pick Up $7.24M Of Cap Room

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Panthers restructured the contract of LB Luke Kuechly in recent days and picked up $7.24 million of cap space.

The Panthers accomplished this by converting $9.05 million of Kuechly’s base salary into a bonus.

Carolina had said that they were going to make some moves to create cap room and it looks like they made the decision to start with Kuechly’s contract.

Kuechly, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Panthers back in 2012. He’s currently in the fifth year of his six-year, $64.105 million contract and set to make a base salary of $10 million for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Kuechly appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers and recorded 130 tackles, two sacks, an interception, two forced fumbles, a recovery and six pass defenses.
