Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that an MRI on Panthers rookie DT Vernon Butler confirmed that he has a high-ankle sprain and the expectation is that he will miss a few weeks with this injury.
Butler, 22, was taken with the No. 30 overall pick by the Panthers back in May. He signed a four-year, $8.4 million contract with the team that includes a base salary $450,000 for the 2016 and a fifth-year option for Carolina to consider in 2020.
This season, Butler has appeared in three games for the Panthers and recorded three tackles, a sack and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 48 interior defender out of 115 qualifying players.
