Panthers Waive Veteran RB C.J. Anderson

The Carolina Panthers announced Monday that they’ve waived veteran RB C.J. Anderson.

“When we signed C.J. in the spring he saw a bigger role than he has had, and honestly, at the time so did we,” GM Marty Hurney said. “But Christian McCaffrey has taken so much of the offense and so much of the plays, we just made the decision that this was the best thing for all parties involved.”

Anderson, 27, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Cal back in 2013. He signed a four-year, $18 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed with the Dolphins as a restricted free agent during the 2016 offseason but the Broncos matched the deal.

Anderson was set to make base salaries of $4.5 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Broncos released him during the offseason. The Panthers later signed him to a one-year contract.

In 2018, Anderson has appeared in nine games for the Panthers and rushed for 104 yards on 24 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with one reception for 24 yards receiving and one touchdown.
