Patriots Plan To Keep WR Wes Welker

Probably not the most shocking headline but New England Patriots WR Wes Welker is set to hit the free agent market following the season and the teams owner is prepared to do what ever it takes to keep him on their roster next season.

“I think Wes wants to be here,” said Patriots owner Robert Kraft, per Ian Rapoport. “And we want him here.”

Since arriving in New England, Welker has transformed into one of the leagues most dangerous receivers and the Patriots are smart enough to recognize that much. He will probably draw interest from a number of teams but it would be tough to assume that he would have the same success elsewhere considering that the Patriots system and Tom Brady have done a great job of playing to his strengths. That’s not to say that it’s impossible for him to succeed somewhere else but more that he’s really an important cog in the Patriots offense.

We have Welker listed as the #10 overall free agent in out Top 50 Free Agents list.
